Larry Baird

Prior to coming to school at UCMT in 1999, Larry Baird had received a degree in Computer Science and a degree in Dance. He traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe with a folk dance troupe. As a result of several dance-related injuries, Larry discovered the use of massage as a means to hasten his recovery. He learned a great deal about touch, his body and the benefits of massage.

In December of 1998 Larry was laid off from his job and was forced to completely re-evaluate the direction his life was going. He had always wanted to be his own boss and looked to a field in which he could help people. In February of 1999, Larry enrolled in the Professional Massage Program at the Layton Auxiliary Classroom of the Utah College of Massage Therapy Family of Schools.

During his schooling at UCMT, Larry wrote a business plan and a vision. He wanted to create a safe, secure, clinical atmosphere that was healing for his clients. After graduating in September of 1999, Larry began building his own practice and his vision soon became a reality in the form of Therapeutic Kneads, a massage clinic based on the ideals Larry had created through his business plan and vision.

Located in Clearfield, Therapeutic Kneads is a clinic of 10 massage therapists who provide several different types of massage and bodywork. The therapists in Larry’s clinic are building and/or have built a strong clientele and are doing quite well. Larry does not hesitate to tell us that a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into building his business. He is also grateful for the fact that he did not have to take out any loans for his business. Larry has put everything he’s got into Therapeutic Kneads and his efforts have definitely paid off.

Not only has Larry created an atmosphere of healing for clients, but has also provided opportunities for other UCMT graduates, and is still his own boss!
