Kathryn Page
Kathryn Page decided to get into massage after her 22-year marriage
failed and she needed to find work to support her family. After
talking with a friend, she decided to move from Minnesota to Utah
and attend classes at UCMT. She graduated from the Salt Lake Campus
in June of 1997.
Immediately after graduating, Kathryn moved back to Minnesota and
interviewed with the Flagship Athletic Club, a prestigious club
used by the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins. Although
against policy to hire new graduates, the club hired Kathryn. "I
just assumed I was good enough and they hired me." She also
worked part-time at a skin care clinic and had an onsite massage
business where she conducted seated work at U.S. West among other
businesses.
During her two years at the athletic club, Kathryn worked with
many professional athletes including Jerry Ball of the Vikings and
Paul Molitor of Twins fame. "I was basically [Paul Molitors]
personal therapist for 2 years. He sought me out. If I was working
at the athletic club, he would come in there. If I was working at
the skin care clinic, he would come in there."
In 1999, Kathryn decided to move back to Utah and bought a home
in St. George. She obtained part-time employment at the Casablanca
Resort Spa and at the Red Mountain Resort Spa. Unfortunately, her
stay was cut short as her daughter developed lung cancer and she
was forced to move back to Minnesota.
With the recovery of her daughter, Kathryn moved back to St. George
and opened a practice with a friend in a Golds Gym. Always
enjoying wearing more than one hat, Kathryn also landed a job at
the Canyon Ranch Spa in the Venetian Resort Casino in Las Vegas.
When the Olympics came to Salt Lake City, Kathryn decided she wanted
to take part in all the excitement and found a job at the new the
Grand America spa. She sold her half of the partnership at Golds
Gym and began commuting to Salt Lake.
Kathryn currently works at the Grand America in Salt Lake City
and is an on-call therapist for the Canyon Ranch in Las Vegas. "They
put me on the books when Im in town
whenever I want
to work." Kathryn has also purchased a stone massage business,
Kims Massage Stones, Etc. and is in the process of developing
a spa.
Of her education, Kathryn states, "I got a really good education
great school! I owe my future to UCMT. I can work wherever I want."
Of the future, she states, "I have my stone massage business
and Im developing my spa. You never know where [the work]
will take you. The opportunities are endless. You just have to assume
that you are the best."
