Debbi Williamson
Debbi Williamson graduated from the Las Vegas Campus of the Utah
College of Massage Therapy Family of Schools in May of 2002. Spa
Struck, a spa located in a resort outside of Vail, Colorado, recently
hired Debbi. Debbi sent the following letter to the Career Services
Department:
I first became interested in massage while I was attending University
of Nevada in Reno. One of my roommates was a massage therapist and
she made me aware of the endless possibilities in the field. After
realizing that I was not yet ready for college, I checked into massage
schools. NSMT was by far the most qualified school that I researched
as well as the closest to my home.
"Before school began, I set a goal. Straight A's and perfect
attendance. This was probably the first real goal I had ever set.
While in school I saw most of my classmates dealing with life changing
challenges and a lot of drama. But for me school was pretty straight
forward, except for Anatomy. I had a great deal of stress with Anatomy,
but I ended up understanding it and walking away with a valuable
lesson. No matter how agreeable you are you won't always agree with
everyone.
"School flew by and I got to know my classmates. I made regular
appointments with Jackie in Career Services. Then came the end of
school, I fulfilled half of my goal, perfect attendance, with a
3.9 GPA... not bad. All the finals came, then everything just went
away. No more classes, or classmates... time to find a job. I was
hired at a local fitness center and started sitting behind a desk.
(BORING!)
"Out of the blue Jackie called me a few days before graduation
and informed me that Spa Struck of Vail was inquiring if anyone
would be willing to interview with them. Jackie immediately thought
of me, because I had told her about wanting to move back to Colorado.
"Before I knew it I was interviewing with the owner of a spa
in the Vail area, who was in Las Vegas at a convention. I was hired
the next day and within 3 days I was driving to start my new career
in Colorado.
"Spa Struck is a cozy, yet professional environment. I have
been working there for almost a month and so far this industry suits
me perfectly. At the spa I perform no more than 6 massages in one
day, which keeps my body from being overstrained. I also have been
trained on all their body treatments, like wraps and polishes. I
have thoroughly enjoyed my experience and look forward to working
the busy ski season."
